Student Coalition against Injustice
A broad-based alliance of organizations open to all at the University of Florida and in the Gainesville community. We are united through the cause of humanity, as well as sharing news, information, ideas and strategies. As citizens of the wealthiest nation we hope to exemplify everyday democracy to encourage more cooperation, dialogue, and praxis for a just world and a better tomorrow for our children and those without a voice.
Some ways in which we currently seek to accomplish this are through co-sponsoring events, pooling resources, and sharing an announcement-only mailing list, which can be joined by sending a blank email to gainesvillejustice-subscribe@lists.riseup.net. The following "Core Principles" which unite us as diverse organizations are of course flexible and always open to discussion. Please contact David or Rob if you would like to join or discuss these principles.
Core Principles
- We demand an adequate and consistent supply of nourishing food, clean water, clothing and shelter to all human beings regardless class, color, creed, ethnicity, gender, religion, or sexual orientation.
- We demand free and universal access to education that promotes critical thinking, democratic dialogue, political activism, and social change.
- We demand free and universal access to healthcare that is holistic, patient-centered, and culturally-sensitive.
- We uphold the inalienable right of all peoples to self-determination that does not infringe upon the basic human rights of any other group.
- We demand global trade policies which account for centuries of colonialism, economic exploitation, and systematic underdevelopment, and which help fulfill the other principles of this charter.
